The European Metrology Network for Smart Electricity Grids will strengthen Europe’s measurement infrastructure to support smart grids

Europe’s electricity distribution network is changing with the increased introduction of renewable energy sources and electric vehicles. EURAMET supported the formation of a European Metrology Network for Smart Electricity Grids (EMN Smart Grids), which acts as a single point of contact to provide stakeholder support and high-level strategic coordination to ensure a coherent approach regarding the development of needed metrological frameworks.

The EMPIR project Support for a European Metrology Network on smart electricity grids (18NET03, SEG-Net) successfully supported the development of the EMN Smart Grids and thus raise the profile of smart grid technology in Europe.

The project consortium took part in several dissemination activities to introduce the EMN Smart Grids to the relevant stakeholder groups and publicise their strategies, including:

The project coordinator Gert Rietveld (VSL) comments on the successful dissemination activities:

“The smart electricity grid stakeholders are at the core of our EMN activities, and we are very pleased that over the three years of our 18NET03 SEG-net project we have had such extensive interaction with our stakeholder community. The strong support that we for example received from our stakeholders in development of our Strategic Research Agenda confirmed the added value that the smart grid metrology community can provide in supporting the energy transition”

This EMPIR project is co-funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the EMPIR Participating States.
