Strategic Research Agenda

The EMN for Smart Electricity Grids (Smart Grids) released the first edition of its Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) in 2023. This comprehensive document is the result of extensive consultations with stakeholders and experts from the smart electricity grids community.

The SRA's primary objective is to provide an overview of the significant measurement challenges faced by electricity grids in a rapidly changing landscape driven by the imperative for a more sustainable energy supply.

The document presents a 5-to-10-year vision and ambition for Europe, addressing the stakeholders’ needs by strengthening and coordinating a sustainable and effective European research strategy.

The core chapter of the SRA explores nine themes spanning from modern embodiments of revenue meters to digital substations, as well as emerging fields like DC grids and efficiency. Each theme identifies and highlights the outstanding measurement challenges, which are then structured into implementation roadmaps
