EMPIR project coordinator to present at 3 summer schools

Lectures to be given on optical clocks with trapped ions

EMPIR project <link research-innovation search-research-projects details>‘Coulomb crystals for clocks’ (17FUN07, CC4C) is working to improve the reliability and precision of trapped ion optical clocks.

To continue to optimise optical clocks for commercial applications such as communication and navigation, further understanding and control of ion sources is needed. This in turn requires that the necessary experimental equipment is made accessible.

This project will help to meet the growing industry need for accurate time, and provide an essential contribution to the revision of the SI system of units.

EMPIR project coordinator Ekkehard Peik from PTB will give lectures on optical clocks with trapped ions at the following renowned international summer schools this year:

         1 - 5 July 2019

         Besancon, France

Course 206 – New frontiers for metrology: from biology and chemistry to quantum and data  science

         4 - 13 July 2019

         Varenna, Italy

         30 September - 11 October 2019

         Les Houches, France

This EMPIR project is co-funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the EMPIR Participating States.
