Calibration of medical infusion pumps explained in video and flyer
EMPIR project flyer and video will help the understanding of the importance of metrology for the accuracy and traceability of medical device flow measurements
EMPIR project Metrology for drug delivery (18HLT08, MEDDII) is developing calibration methods to enable accurate and traceable flow rate measurements for drug delivery devices, which is critical to patient safety.
It will also investigate fast-changing flow rates; the physical properties of mixtures of liquids and occlusion (blockage) phenomena in multi-infusion devices. These devices administer more than one substance directly into the veins of patients over one access point. A better understanding of the causes of dosage errors will lead to increased accuracy and fewer errors. Lives will be saved by uptake of traceable calibrations of both low and ultra-low flow infusion devices, especially for multi-infusion systems.
Flyer and video
The project MeDDII has developed a flyer entitled ‘Calibration of Medical Infusion Pumps’ and a video on ‘Traceability of infusion pumps: from primary standards to the user’ to help the understanding of the importance of metrology in medical device measurement accuracy. Both are available on the project webpage.
This EMPIR project is co-funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the EMPIR Participating States.
