The ozone layer protects humans from the adverse effects of ultraviolet radiation. EMRP project Traceability for atmospheric total column ozone (ENV59 atmoz) will characterise and calibrate two instruments used to make ground-based measurements of atmospheric ozone, disseminate improved ozone measurements with known uncertainties and eventually assist in the development of a replacement for the ageing instrument.
Results from the project will be presented at the symposium. The symposium will consist of a number of sessions on the following topics stratospheric ozone, tropospheric ozone, ozone chemistry-climate interactions, global ozone observations and measurement techniques and effects of ozone on climate, human health, ecosystems and food production.
