EURAMET Spring Camp on Digitalisation

The registration is closed.

EURAMET's Working Group on Metrology for Digital Transformation (M4D), the EMN for Mathematics and Statistics (MathMet) and the Technical Committee for Interdisciplinary Metrology (TC-IM) are organising an extended digitalisation workshop in the form of a spring camp. The objective of this event is to gather valuable input to support the revision of the EURAMET digitalisation strategy.

Digitalisation is a rapidly evolving field, and it is crucial that the related EURAMET strategy evolves to reflect the latest technologies and emerging challenges.

As a follow up activity, an NMI director’s workshop will be held at the EURAMET General Assembly 2025, focusing on translating concepts and improving communication within and across different digitalisation areas and giving guidance to participants on where to focus digitalisation efforts in the future.

Outline
The Spring Camp on Digitalisation will start with a series of 4 key note talks from experts from across Europe who have brought benefit to their sectors through implementation of robust, flexible and scalable digital solutions that address the needs in their area. Following the talks, there will be an open discussion with the speakers and attendees.

The event will continue as a series of 4 parallel discussion sessions, offering attendees the opportunity to engage with peers on the challenges and interests that are important to their NMIs or DIs. The possible topics for discussion have been grouped into four broad classes, loosely based on whether the topics are focused internally or externally, and whether they are research-related or support deployment of digital metrology. A provisional list of topics is given below, but note that many topics could be relevant to other areas and would be valid for discussion in more than one session.

Keynote speakers

  • Olga Fink,  École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland
  • Markus Wenzel, Constructor University and Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Medicine MEVIS, Bremen, Germany
  • Paul Oakley, Oakley CAD Services Ltd, London, UK
  • Richard Dennis, University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Internal & deployment

  • Internal digital workflows (scientific & quality/administrative, status tracking, … [enterprise architecture])
  • Better digital tools for comparison analysis (“digital expert”)
  • Using the digital SI framework
  • Digital equivalent of traceability
  • Remote calibration & realisation

External & deployment

  • SDCC
  • QR codes on instruments
  • Customer front end
  • European common dataspaces & DPP
  • Digital Quality Infrastructure
  • Reference datasets (for software assessment and for  “gold standard” data availability)
  • Security
  • Digital products & services

Internal & research

  • Uncertainties
  • Workbench (Digital equivalent of where the work [calibration, testing etc] is done)
  • Blockchain for comparisons
  • Research Data Management
  • FAIR principles
  • Calibration guidelines that are smart

External & research

  • Trust in AI
  • Machine learning
  • Trustworthiness
  • Digital twins & virtual metrology
  • Data quality frameworks/principles
  • Sensor networks
  • Data visualisation (incl. of uncertainties)

On the final day, there will be a wrap-up and summary of the sessions, preparation of a draft of suggestions for the revised strategy, and creation of a preparatory paper for the director’s workshop.

The schedule of the campus is available here >>

Who should attend and why?
Staff of NMIs and DIs who have an expertise and interest in digitalisation topics and in digital strategy to support EURAMET, industry and end users of metrology.

Attendees will hear about successful digitalisation activities in other sectors and will have the chance to discuss digitalisation with other technical experts and strategy leaders. They will also get the opportunity to ensure that the updated strategy reflects the interests and challenges of their main areas and sectors of interest.
