EMN Mathmet organised a dedicated session at the Annual Conference of the European Network for Business and Industrial Statistics (ENBIS), held at the University of Piraeus, Greece, from 14 - 18 September 2025.
Session title: Mathematics and statistics for trustworthy measurements and quality assured data: exchanging ideas between metrologists and statisticians
Date: 16 September 2025
Session programme: Full details here
ENBIS is an international platform connecting theory and practice in business and industrial statistics. It is also a member of the EMN Mathmet Stakeholder Advisory Committee, and its Special Interest Group on Measurement Uncertainty is led by EMN Mathmet members.
The EMN Mathmet session included:
- An introduction to EMN Mathmet, its mission and activities.
- Case study 1: A recently started project on validating classical and AI-based algorithms for predicting power flows and unwanted events in electrical grids.
- Case study 2: A project on developing a traceability framework for infrasound measurements, from the in-field measurements up to the SI measurement units.
Each case study highlighted the main challenges, with time for active discussion with participants. The session closed with concluding remarks by the Chair of EMN Mathmet, Francesca Pennecchi.
Why it matters
These events are important opportunities for EMN Mathmet to engage both the metrology and the wider mathematics & statistics communities, encouraging collaboration and knowledge exchange on methods and tools that ensure trustworthy measurements in the digital age.
