VSL-NPL bilateral comparisons in emerging fields of gas analysis

Project Description

The project aims to provide a platform for bilateral comparisons of measurement standards, in the gas analysis area, between VSL and NPL. These comparisons aim at supporting novel services. Annually a progress report will be presented to the Gas SC.
The pilot laboratory can be either NPL or VSL and is agreed upon on a case-by-case basis.

Final Report 2019-03-27

The comparison was completed in March 2017 and the final report was completed and agreed in March 2018. The report has been finalised as an NPL report and is currently being authorised through NPLs internal document database.

Progress Report 2018-04-12

2016: agreement of which isomers are selected for the comparison on branched C6-C7 alkanes in methane
2017: problems with the preparation of the mixtures due to the fact that 2,2 dimethylbutane was very difficult to acquire; VSL prepared 1 of the mixtures and this is ready for the exchange
2018: NPL has received the 2,2 dimetylbutane and hope to prepare their mixture before the summer of 2018
second half of 2018: exchange of mixtures and analysis and results.
