The follow-up interlaboratory comparison of radionuclide calibrators
Project Description
The first comparison of the radionuclide calibrators between CMI and FTMC was organised within the frame of EURAMET Project "The interlaboratory comparison of the radionuclide calibrators" in 2013. The secondary standard equipment for radionuclide measurement used in Lithuania was compared with the similar equipment used in the Czech Republic. Activities of the radionuclides applied in a nuclear medicine such as F-18, Ga-67, Tc-99m, In-111, I-123, I-125, I-131, Cs-137 and Tl-201 (Cs-137 as a check source) had been measured. The results showed that consistent, safe and effective radioactivity measurement services to the medicine community are provided. To be in line with ISO/IEC 17025 standard and to ensure the continuation of the services at necessary quality level the follow-up comparison is proposed. The measurements will be fulfilled in Czech Republic

Measurement standards of CMI, FTMC and SMU have been compared with the secondary standard chamber of CMI for the activity measurement of radionuclides used in the nuclear medicine: F-18, Ga-67, Tc-99m, In-111, I-123, I-125, I-131, Cs-137, Tl-201 and Ra-223. Radionuclide solutions have been measured in two standard geometries during the main run of measurements: 10 ml P6 vials and 5 ml BS ampoules. Results of the participants are consistent with the reference values within the coverage factor k = 2. This collaborative approach to deal with short-lived radionuclides simultaneously at their production site has several big advantages: the cost-effectiveness and radiation protection avoiding a circulation of radioactive materials; equal measurement conditions in terms of the background, environment characteristics (barometric pressure, temperature, humidity) as well as an activity level; the flexibility in preparing the solutions in selected geometries; compactness in duration of all measurement runs. Moreover, the results summarized through the report to EURAMET can be used for supporting the Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs) of the respective NMIs
