The advancement of technical competence of staff in upcoming laboratories in humidity

Project Description

There is a clear need of training of humidity personnel in national laboratories that are developing new humidity service. To meet this demand several laboratories are willing to organise training in the following fields:

  • the use of a chilled mirror hygrometer
  • Calibration of RH instruments using climatic chamber and chilled mirror hygrometer
  • Calibration of dew point instruments using a secondary standard from -50 °C to 60 °C
  • Calibration of dew point instruments using a secondary standard from 20 °C to 85 °C
  • Calibration of dew point instruments using a secondary standard below -50 °C
  • the use of a dew-point generator as a primary standard from -50 °C to 85 °C

The training courses shall attribute the uncertainty analysis in detail.

Of the participating laboratories in this project thirteen countries seek training, the remaining seven are capable of providing the course and course material. A training fee is associated to this project that shall cover the expenses of the training laboratory. The duration of each course is three to five days. Every course shall be announced with a detailed plan of the course content to be approved by all participants. The courses shall take place over a two-year period.

Final Report 2011-03-23

There has not been a demand to repeat courses that took place in 2006,2007 and 2008.
This project is now closed

Progress Report 2009-03-23

As a follow up to the first training course in 2006 at DELTA, Denmark, there was insufficient demand to host a second course at NPL in 2007. Topics covered in this programme were the use of chilled mirror hygrometer, calibration of RH instruments using climatic chamber and a chilled mirror and the calibration of dew point instruments using a secondary standard.

At the EURAMET meeting in 2008 there was a demand for hosting a course on the use of Humidity Generators as a Primary Standard. It was agreed to host such a course in 2008. MIKES, Finland agreed to be the course provider with places limited to 5 participants per course.

All TC Therm contact persons were circulated with details of the course in June 2008. Ten participants from nine countries responded and 2 courses were scheduled for September and December 2008.

The duration of the course was 3 days and the cost of the course was € 1500 per participant. The course tutor was Martti Heinonen, MIKES.

In 2009 there may be a need to repeat the first course again if there is a demand for it.

Progress Report 2005-03-22

The proposed date for commencement of this project was October 2004.

The new date of commencement is March 2005.

Presently 2 questionnaires are being drafted to evaluate the needs and what can be provided.

  •  7 Countries who can provide training
  •  Participants, 20 Countries

It is envisaged that the first course would commence in late 2005 or early 2006.
