Pilot study: Comparison of DC/AC/LI/SI high voltage measurements

Project Description

The laboratories which do perform HV electrical testing of equipment for HVDC and HVAC transmission and distribution grids tests can guarantee traceability and equivalence of their measurement results by calibrating their laboratory standards at National Metroloy Institutes (NMIs) and Designated Institutes(DIs).

Their measurement standards in turn presently undergo periodical supplementary intercomparisons, where distinct travelling standards are made available and measured for DC, AC and impulse high voltages respectively.
This pilot study project is proposed as a preparatory exercise to gain experience and establish confidence in a new universal HV divider as a travelling standard, which was designed and developed as a key output by the joint EMPIR project "Support for standardisation of high voltage testing with composite and combined wave shapes", 19NRM07 HV-com2.

The calibration of the travelling standard will be carried out under high DC, AC, Lightning Impulse (LI) and Switching Impulse (SI) voltage. The feasibility of a future supplementary comparison inside EURAMET by such a standard will be investigated.
The comparison will also be useful to verify the high voltage measurement capabilities of two European NMIs and one DI and to support their CMC declaration for High DC, AC, SI and LI voltage.

The travelling standard is built and provided by LCOE-FFII, who will act as a pilot laboratory.
