Optical time domain reflectometers (OTDR)

Project Description

Manufacturers and users of OTDRs require standards for the in-house calibration of test equipment. The collaborative project proposed will survey the device available for this purpose and the procedures involved in their use. The calibration systems existing in participating countries will be compared with an appropriate transfer standard. The final report will attempt to provide recommendation for suitable devices and the associated procedures.

A recent IEC survey drew attention to the need for standards in this area of fibre optics technology.
