Measurement of external diameter of metallic wires

Small cylindrical reference standards for the determination of external diameter are required by numerous industries, in particular in the field of optical fibres, optical fibre connection devices, and wire manufacturers. In order to compare the characteristics of the different techiques of measurement the Laboratoire National d'Essais proposes to organize an intercomparison between NMI's interested in this project. A circulation of several metallic cylindrcal plugs will be organised by LNE. OFM will assist LNE in the selection of the transfer standards which will be used for the intercomparison. The typical values are: external diameter 50 µm to 500 µm, Expanded uncertainty better than ± 100 nm.
