Simple explanation of mass measurement procedure intented to the people from industrial, research and calibration testing laboratories.

Document describes the terminology, theory of mechanical and electronical balances, methods of weighing and mass determination, calculation of mass from balance indication, determination of uncertainty. Numerical examples illustrate the application theory.

The project was abandoned. The proposal for a mass guide was superseded by the adoption by the EURAMET TC-M of EA calibration guide 18 (guide to the calibration of mon-automatic weighing instruments).
