Key comparisons of air kerma and absorbed dose to water standards in 60Co radiation beam for radiation therapy

Project Description

In this project, seven participating laboratories will perform a comparison in terms of air kerma and absorbed dose to water in 60Co radiation therapy beam. Three transfer chambers will be used for the comparison. Six of the participating laboratories are secondary standard laboratories. VSL is the primary laboratory and acts as a linking laboratory to the BIPM.RI(I)-K1 and BIPM.RI(I)-K4 comparisons.

SSM (Sweden) is the pilot laboratory for measurements, STUK (Finland) the coordinating/reporting laboratory.

Final Report 2023-11-07

The comparison has been completed and results are available in the KCDB.

In this project seven participating laboratories performed a key comparison in terms of air kerma and absorbed dose to water in C-60o radiation therapy beam using three transfer chambers. Six of the participating laboratories are secondary standard laboratories and VSL is a primary laboratory and acted as a linking laboratory link to the BIPM.RI(I)-K1 and BIPM.RI(I)-K4 comparisons. Measurements were performed during October 2021 to November 2022. The results were analysed and presented in terms of degrees of equivalence suitable for entry in the BIPM key comparison database. The results are well in line with each laboratory’s measurement uncertainty and support the CMCs of the participating laboratories. The comparison results are published in the BIPM key comparison database (KCDB) under the reference EURAMET.RI(I)-K1.3 and EURAMET.RI(I)-K4.3 and the final report is published in Metrologia 2023

Measurements have been made by the end of the year 2022 and the pilot laboratory (STUK) has got all measurement reports. Pilot laboratory is currently analysing data and drafting Draft A of the report.
