Intercomparison of viscosity standards in the low viscosity range

Project Description

The first intercomparison carried out in 1993 reveals differences in the results of the participants resulting from neglecting some important sources of error.

Related corrections have been discusses at the meeting for the evaluation of the measurements in November 1993.

The aim of this project is to compare the results obtained of the laboratories after the experimental determination of the above-mentioned corrections, and to harmonize the stated different level in realizing the viscosity scale of the European national laboratories.

The intercomparisons will be carried out in two steps:

1. Measurements of samples of four liquids in the range from 0,3 up to 3 mm 2/s

2. Measurements of samples of the liquids with a viscosity of about 5000 and 30000 mm 2/s

The second step can be started when the results of the first step are in sufficient agreement. The liquids will be provided by the PTB. A main point of view is the evaluation of the measurement uncertainty, especially the influence factors that have to be taken into account. It is intended to work out a paper about this.
