Intercomparison of viscosity standards

Project Description

The aim of the project is to harmonise the different levels in realising the viscosity scale of the European national laboratories and to reduce the uncertainty of the basic viscosimeter calibration with water. For this purpose an intercomparison is intended in the following way: Two liquids with different viscosities will be sent to the participating national laboratories, one with a viscosity value close to the viscosity of water, the other with a viscosity of about 5000 mm2/s. Each participant should measure the kinematic viscosity and the density at 20 degree C. The liquids will be provided by PTB. The measurement results including a statement about the maesurement uncertainty will be sent back to the pilot laboratory. The result will be discussed at a meeting of all partners.

This programme has been worked out during a EUROMET meeting on viscosity held at LNE on September 17/18, 1992.

Final Report 1993-11-30

The comparison has been completed and results are available in the KCDB.
