Enquiry on the cleaning of stainless steel mass standards

Project Description

Discussions during annual Mass meetings showed that the cleaning methods applied in the standards laboratories of the various countries differ considerably. This project is aimed at collecting and recirculating data on:

• The methods applied in European laboratories to clean mass standards and weights of stainless steel and allied materials.
• The influence of cleaning on the mass value and on the stability of weights.

The collected information could contstitute a basis for a future project aimed at the establishment of a recommended procedure for the cleaning of stainless steel weights.
