Development of Metrology Infrastructure in Estonia

Project Description

The main objective of the project is to improve the Estonian metrology infrastructure to the European level. The improvement of the metrology infrastructure can be divided into three main goals:

  • procurement of measurement standards and measurement equipment
  • suitable laboratory conditions for equipment and measurements
  • trained technical and research personnel in the laboratories

The first phase of the project will consist of preparing of technical specifications for new equipment and laboratory rooms for certain measurement fields.

The second phase will be practical training in Finnish laboratories to introduce measurement methods and practices in handling measurement equipment in selected measurement fields.

The third phase of the project will consist of training in order to support proper implementation of the new equipment.

Final Report 2005-03-17

The main objective of the project was to improve the Estonian metrology infrastructure to the European level. The improvement of the metrology infrastructure was divided into three main goals:

  • procurement of measurement standards and measurement equipment
  • suitable laboratory conditions for equipment and measurements
  • trained technical and research personnel in the laboratories

To achieve the main goals the project was divided into three major phases:

The first phase of the project consisted of determination of technical specifications for new equipment and laboratory rooms for certain measurement fields.

The second phase was practical training in Finnish laboratories to introduce measurement methods and practices in handling measurement equipment in selected measurement fields.

The third phase of the project was training and knowledge transfer in order to support proper implementation of the new equipment in Estonian laboratories. Also some recommendations for further improvements were given.

The project was carried out successfully and the main goals of the project were achieved. During the project refurbishment of metrology laboratories has been carried out, new equipment has been installed and put into operation. Technical and research personnel of the laboratories are trained and familiar with the new equipment and measurement methods. As the result of the project, the level of metrology in Estonia improved significantly in several measurement fields.
