Determination of gold in jewellery alloy

Project Description

The goal of this project is to provide a comparison of laboratories' analytical capabilities for the determination of gold in reference material containing 750 (±20) mg/g Au in a quadruple alloy (Au-Ag-Cu-Zn). Reference material to be used in this comparison represent a typical type of jewellery gold alloy. The coordinating laboratory within IMBIH will prepare the the alloy and certify reference value for gold content traceable to NIST SRM 685-R. Standard method to be used by participants is ISO 11426 (Determination of gold in gold jewellery alloys - cupelation method).

Results of this project will demonstrate analytical capabilities of participating laboratories.

Timescale

End of May 2015 - PT sample distributed with PT protocol by pilot laboratory

End of July 2015 - Results submitted by participants

End of September 2015 - Report submitted by pilot laboratory

 Final Report 2016-06-23

The project has been completed and the report can be downloaded here>>

The results of the comparisons show analytical capabilities of participating laboratories and objective review of their performance and technical competence.
