Comparison of force standards from 500 kN to 4 MN

Project Description

At the EUROMET Mass Contact Persons Meeting in Istanbul in February 1999 was decided that the European pilot laboratories of the Force CIPM key comparisons will carry out the EUROMET Force key comparisons. In EUROMET Project 505 PTB is the pilot laboratory for the range from 500 kN to 4 MN. Two new EUROMET projects are proposed during the meeting in Istanbul. Project 518 by NPL, UK for the 50 kN and 100 kN range and Project 535 by Mikes, Finland for the 5 kN and 10 kN range. The intercomparisons are directly related to the CIPM force key comparisons and will use the same measurement procedures like in the CIPM measurements. For the quantity force the EUROMET key comparisons will start after finishing the CIPM key comparisons.PTB has started with the selection of the force transducers for key comparisons in the range 500 kN to 4 MN. Measurements are carried out to investigate the creep effect, the loading procedure and the long time stability of different transducers. After the selection of the transducers it is planned to start with the EUROMET key comparisons in the range 500 kN to 4 MN in 2004.

Measurements will be carried out in order to investigate the creep effects, the loading procedure and the long time stability of different transducers. The key comparison is planned to start in 2004.

The participants of the RMO force key comparison should discuss the detail of the project at the meeting in Istanbul in February 1999. Progress Report - 04 June 2003
