Bilateral comparison of the Realisations of the ITS-90 from -38.8344 °C to 419.527 °C
Project Description
The pilot study consists of an comparison of the realisations of the temperature scale ITS-90 by use of an SPRT as transfer instrument which will be calibrated at fixed points for the temperature range from -38.8344 °C to 419.527 °C. It will be conducted as part of the EURAMET CaBuCo-MSA1 activity MSA-25-03-04 between PTB (Germany) and SE “Ukrmetrteststandart (Ukraine).
Excerpt from the corresponding CaBuCo-MSA agreement MSA-25-03-04 aims:
“Participants from Ukrmetrteststandart stated particular interest in the preparation and maintenance of temperature fixed-points in the temperature range from -38.8344 °C (mercury) to 419.527 °C (zinc), hence, two visits to PTB are envisaged as follows.
The idea is to start with training at the premises of PTB Berlin for the duration of two weeks per participant (total 4 person-weeks). The training will cover the theoretical basis of the realisation and dissemination of the International Temperature Scale (ITS-90), and handling of fixed-points as well as the calibration of SPRTs (Standard Platinum Resistance Thermometers) by experiment.
The experimental work shall also become part of a bilateral comparison in which an SPRT is taken from PTB to Ukrmetrteststandart.
Between both visits, Ukrainian participants are given time to apply their newly acquired knowledge in their laboratory back at Ukrmetrteststandart. This time at Ukrmetrteststandart shall also be used to conduct experimental work to complete the bilateral comparison.
The second visit to PTB is reserved for final discussions including evaluation of the comparison with guidance by PTB and findings of the Ukrainian participants after calibration of the SPRT at their facilities.”
PTB is the pilot laboratory and provides the transfer instrument (Pt25). The comparison is part of the CabuCo funded activity Mentoring Scheme Award – No. MSA-25-03-04.
