Calculation of the elastic distortion of piston cylinder assemblies in pressure balances etc.
Project Description
The effective areas of pressure balance piston-cylinder assemblies and the multiplication factors of hydraulic amplification systems in force-standard machines change on the application of pressure, due to the elastic distortion of the piston-cylinder assemblies. The magnitudes of the correction for this distortion are normally calculated.
Several software packages are now available for such calculations, using either analytical or finite element methods. The project will investgate how well the calculation methods agree, by simulating a small number of selected examples.
