Traceability of luminous intensity and luminous flux using transfer standard lamps

Project Description

Both, the luminous intensity and the luminous flux standard lamps were calibrated at the PTB in January 2013 and need now to calibrate.

Mazda Standard Lamps 407, 408, 410, 412 are calibrated at PTB


Project Report 2023-01-11

The previous calibration was reported in the 2022 project form for this project. The recalibration intervall for the luminous intensity lamps is 5 years. No update is necessary therefore.

Project Report 2022-01-21

Due to the calibration history the recalibration interval was increased from 4 to 5 years.

Moreover, correlated colour temperature was not calibrated for some years now. Remembering the gradual disappearance of incandescence lamps, four new tungsten lamps (Osram WI 41/G) were added to the ensemble of standard lamps end of 2021. They were calibrated by PTB for luminous intensity and colour temperature, respectively. No calibrations of total luminous flux were asked for two years. A recalibration of the respective standard lamps was not necessary for this reason.

Traceability for luminous intensity and luminous flux for Austrian Measurement Standard.
The luminous intensity standard lamps (OSRAM WI41/G, lamp numbers: 715, 716, 718, 719) were calibrated at PTB on March 31st, 2017. Next calibration is due March 2021.
The luminous flux standard lamps (Mazda, lamp numbers: 406, 407) were calibrated at CMI on December 17th, 2017. Next calibration is due December 2022.

Luminous Intensity were calibrated on March 2017 at PTB, Measurements in process at BEV Luminous Flux since April 2017 at PTB for Calibration.

The project has been moved from comparison to traceability. There has been no calibration since 2013. The status report is the same as last time.

No new calibrations.

The activities in photometry and radiometry at the BIPM were closed down in 2003. Therefore, the BEV now consigns the PTB to accomplish the calibration of incandescent transfer standard lamps to maintain traceability of the units of luminous intensity and luminous flux. At the PTB the realization of the candela is based on radiant power measurements transferred by a photometer (Metrologia 1997, 34, 115-124). The lumen, the unit of luminous flux, is traced back to the candela by employment of a goniophotometer (Metrologia, 1996, 32, 685-688). Thus, the luminous intensity and the luminous flux transfer standard lamps of the BEV will be calibrated on a regular time schedule at the PTB.
