Strengthening Communication and Impact for European Metrology with European Metrology Networks
Short Name: Comms4Net, Project Number: 24CIC01
Supporting the visibility and future of metrology research through a long-term framework for European collaboration and communication
Europe’s world-leading metrology capability plays a critical role in the ability to address challenges in areas like sustainability, health, and industry. Maintaining this capability requires effective communication to increase the visibility of metrology and promote its importance. Alongside Metrology Partnership Joint Research Projects (JRPs), European Metrology Networks (EMNs) serve as a key way to do this – sharing knowledge, feeding into policy and regulation, and reinforcing Europe’s metrology strategies. For this to be effective, communication with stakeholders, end-users and other networks is vital. Currently, EMNs rely on their own capabilities and strategies to address communication needs. There is therefore a need to develop a long-term framework to organise and support EMN communication processes more efficiently.
This project will first establish a steering board to guide its direction and ensure alignment with key priorities. It will then establish target groups and devise and implement a strategic communication plan to increase the visibility of EMNs and European metrology within them. Alongside this, communication training will be provided. The project will support the EMNs in developing digital content like social media posts, newsletters and success stories, and provide organisational support for events to boost engagement with stakeholders. The project will also work to identify areas throughout Europe where metrology knowledge and support could be provided (e.g. policy, pre-standardisation and EU partnerships).
The project’s work will improve communication within the European metrology community, increase the outreach capabilities, and cement the European Metrology Networks as a key support structure to organise and share metrology knowledge throughout Europe.
