Determination of transferrin in human serum

Project Description

Transferrin is an important marker for e.g. anaemia, a widespread disease. However, up to now no reference measurement procedure exist for this protein. Within Work Package 1 of the EMRP project "Metrology for metalloproteins" measurement methods for the SI traceable determination of transferrin in the human serum were developed and have to be validated by demonstrating that transferrin can be measured with sufficient comparability in this matrix. Therefore an international intercomparison is organised for the analysis of transferrin in a human serum. National metrology laboratories as well as other expert laboratories are invited to participate in this intercomparison.

Final Report 2015-01-31

A transfer of the method developed within the project "Metrology for metalloproteins" to real sample matrices like serum has been achieved. The results of the comparison emphasizes the challenging nature of transferrin quantification in complex biological matrices.
