Supplementary comparison on thermal diffusivity measurements of high conductive materials by the laser flash method

Project Description

The objective of this inter-laboratory comparison is to establish the degree of equivalence among the NMIs in Europe on thermal diffusivity measurements of high conductive materials from 23 °C up to 1400 °C using the laser flash method.

Progress Report 2025-03-06

Three sets of specimens prepared by the pilot from 3 blocks of material (2 metallic materials and 1 graphite) were sent to the 5 participants in March 2024.
Two participants have finished their measurements and have sent their results to the pilot.

The thermal diffusivity measurements are in progress in the three other participating NMIs.

Progress Report 2024-04-02

The protocol of this supplementary comparison on thermal diffusivity measurements was reviewed and accepted mid-July 2023 by EURAMET TC-T, and it was registered in the KCDB under identifier EURAMET.T-S8 in September 2023.
The pilot prepared the specimens from 3 blocks of material (2 metallic materials and 1 graphite) and carried out thermal diffusivity measurements at 23 °C on all specimens in order to check the homogeneity for each material.

Three sets of specimens (one per material) were sent to the 5 participants in March 2024 and the measurements have then started.

In June 2023, before the validation of the comparison protocol by the TC-T, UME (Turkiye) is no longer participant in this project. PTB (Germany) is now involved in this project.
