Developing the European metrology infrastructure and increase collaboration across NMIs and DIs

European national metrology institutes (NMIs) and designated institutes (DIs) are pioneers in measurement technologies and represent the cutting edge of global measurement expertise. Advanced measurement technologies and improved knowledge across Europe will support the European economy and impact many EU aims, such as the 2050 carbon neutrality targets and the circular economy action plan. However, to achieve these goals, emerging NMIs and DIs need to build human and institutional capacities to ensure they are able to meet stakeholder needs with limited resources. Additionally, pan-European collaboration needs to be further strengthened, especially regarding countries that are currently in the process of associating with the European Union. This will also support the continuous development of the measurement services offered By NMIs and DIs and ensure Europe remains competitive in the field of metrology.

This project aims to increase European collaboration and reinforce NMI and DI research capabilities by awarding and managing researcher mobility support (RMS) awards. Moreover, a mentoring scheme award (MSA) will be implemented to facilitate active participation in EURAMET structures. The project will also support the human and institutional capacity of NMIs and DIs to develop training courses, workshops and summer schools throughout the lifetime of the project. Additionally, metrology-related training materials will be published on e-learning platforms. The topics of the courses and materials will be decided based on stakeholder needs. Overall, these advancements ensure the global competitiveness of the European economy.
