Calibration of gauge blocks by mechanical comparison

Project Description

The purpose of the comparison is to compare the results of the participating laboratories during calibration of five steel gauge blocks by mechanical comparison.
The gauge blocks selected are of steel material and have nominal values as follows: 1.42 mm, 10 mm, 23 mm, 75 mm, 100 mm.
A single point point calibration will be undertaken on each gauge block by the measurement procedure being currently used at the project participant's laboratory, taking into account ISO 3650.
The deviation from the nominal length of each gauge block should be measured and the associated uncertainty of calibration evaluated.
The comparison will be based on the protocols used for Projects 601 and 797.

The project is performed as part of IPA 2011 proficiency testing project.

The comparison of gauge block calibrations by mechanical comparison was undertaken. The gauge blocks selected were of steel material and had nominal values 1.42 mm, 10 mm, 23 mm, 75 mm, 100 mm.A single point calibration was undertaken on each gauge block by the measurement procedure being currently used at the project participant's laboratory, taking into account ISO 3650.The deviation from the nominal length of each gauge block was determined and the associated uncertainty of calibration evaluated.
The comparison was based on the protocols used for Projects 601 and 797.

The results of the comparison were reported in October 2013 – good agreement was obtained, En values are smaller than 1
