Standards and the EU Single Market

On World Standards Day this year, CEN and CENELEC, together with the European Commission and ETSI, are organizing a tweetchat on the theme of ‘Standards and the EU Single Market’.
The tweetchat will happen on 14 October at 11am and will last 1 hour.

Representatives from DG Growth will give the European Commission’s point of view during the event.
The event seems to be a good opportunity for representatives of the metrology community to get a deeper insight into the role of the standardisation system in the European single market and the links between research and standardisation.

In order to frame the discussion, a set of six questions have been posed. General responses to those questions will be posted on the CEN and CENELEC website to provide advanced insight into the topic and foster reactions from the audience.
The questions are:
How can standardization help deepen the EU Single Market?
Standards are voluntary but should they be voluntary for every sector? Why?
How can standardization strengthen Europe’s industrial base?
We are promoting international standards for the Single Market. Is this good or bad for businesses?
How can standardization help the European Commission to better respond to market needs?
Is European standardization key for trade negotiations with other markets? How can we improve?

Further information on the event can be found at http://www.cencenelec.eu/news/events/Pages/EV-2015-018.aspx

The hashtag for the event will be #speakstandardsEU.
