Smart Electricity Grids network successfully launched

On 13 May, the kick-off meeting of EURAMET's European Metrology Network (EMN) for Smart Electricity Grids took place in the beautiful city of Ljubljana, in Slovenia.

At the meeting Gert Rietveld (VSL, Netherlands) has been elected as Chair of the network: "It is an honour to chair this strategic network in the area of smart grid metrology. Building on the excellent support from our stakeholder community so far, I am confident this EMN will be a great success."

Gert is supported by a dedicated team including Enrico Mohns (PTB, Germany) who has been elected as Vice-Chair: "I am honoured to be appointed as Vice-Chair. I am optimistic that this European Metrology Network can support challenging future topics with accurate measurement solutions, required for Europe's electricity grid."

EURAMET congratulates Gert and Enrico on their election and wishes them all the best for their new roles.

Until now 19 highly committed members and 2 partners have engaged with the newly initiated metrology network. High motivation is a key element for a strong EMN, and so this has been encouraging to see.

Another important factor is fully understanding the needs of stakeholders, including power transformer manufacturers, utilities, standardisation organisations and policy makers. In the next few months the EMN for Smart Electricity Grids will begin addressing these groups. The kick-off event showed that the EMN consists of metrology experts who have exceptional connections to industry partners. The EMN paves the way to connect all these experiences and create strong engagement between stakeholders and scientists.
