Service Tool – EMN Radiation Protection's new Service Database

The new EMN Radiation Protection Service Database is an online platform that offers stakeholders access to a wide range of radiation protection metrology services provided by European National Metrology Institutes (NMI) and Designated Institutes (DIs).

The service database allows stakeholders including regulators, industry, and research organisations to quickly identify which institute provides specific services, contact them directly, and use the tool as part of planning for metrology support in radiation protection and regulatory compliance.

Behnam Khanbabaee, Secretary of EMN Radiation Protection comments:

"Europe's quest for competitiveness and technological sovereignty is challenging metrology. We need to provide new services of the highest quality to businesses faster. Research for the next generation of services must therefore be carried out in consultation with Stakeholders. That is why we are working together in the EMN Radiation Protection: metrology institutes, radiation protection institutes, academia and Industry."

The database covers several key areas of metrology:

  • Dosimetry services for occupational and medical radiation protection mainly focus on radiation protection of photon and beta dosimetry
  • Radioactivity measurements and calibration services in the field of e.g. Primary radioactivity measurement systems, Rn-222 and Rn-220
  • Environmental monitoring capabilities
  • Neutron metrology facilities

The platform supports the goals of traceability, quality assurance, and a harmonised measurement infrastructure by establishing direct links between metrology institutes, designated institutes, and relevant stakeholders.

The development of the service database was fostered by the project ‘Support for a European Metrology Network on reliable radiation protection regulation’. This EMPIR project was co-funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the EMPIR Participating States.
