The first EURAMET 'Summer School on Thermal Metrology' will provide metrologists new to thermometry with a sound introduction to the field. Starting with an overview on the measurement infrastructure, the training course will give a detailed insight into thermal measurement disciplines to prepare the participants for their future work.

The training course will take place from 17 to 21 September 2018 at the Hellenic Institute of Metrology (EIM), in Thessaloniki, Greece.

EURAMET have been able to convince a number of world leading experts from the thermometry and measurement community to give the lectures at the summer school.

"The EURAMET Summer School of Thermal Metrology is a unique opportunity for measurement specialists new to the field to network with their future peers and to learn from world leading experts", explains Graham Machin, chair of EURAMET's Technical Committee for Thermometry.

Course outline

The five-day training event will include the following teaching sessions and hands-on training:

• The international metrology infrastructure
• The redefinition of the SI
• An introduction to temperature
• Traceability and uncertainty in temperature measurement
• Thermometry and humidity
• Thermophysical quantities
• Contact and non-contact thermometry
• Humidity and Moisture
• An introduction to the techniques of thermal conductivity measurement and viscosity measurement

The interactive teaching sessions will include plenty of time for discussions and questions. Students are asked to specify their training needs during the registration process to help the lecturers tailor their training material accordingly.

An important part of the course will be a day spent in the laboratory gaining practical experience in thermometry, humidity and thermal quantities measurement.

In addition, the course will be a valuable opportunity to connect with like-minded colleagues at an early stage of their careers.

Who should attend?

The course is primarily aimed at staff of EURAMET National Metrology Institutes and Designated Institutes with less than 2 years' experience in the field of thermal measurements or those who need to gain experience in another aspect of thermometry.
