Kamal Hossain, former EURAMET Chairperson

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of EURAMET’s former Chairperson Dr Kamal Hossain, who died on the 20th January.

Kamal had been with NPL, the UK’s National Metrology Institute, since 1974 and held the position of Research and International Director. He was EURAMET Delegate from 2008 to 2017.

During his term as EURAMET Chairperson between 2012 and 2015, Kamal was the initiator of some crucial strategic developments and improvements at EURAMET. He was the main driver behind EURAMET’s 2020 Strategy, including the association’s strategic objectives aimed at improving the European metrology infrastructure.

Kamal further developed the close cooperation between the Technical Committees and the Board of Directors, two important bodies of EURAMET. He also facilitated more focussed communication between EURAMET and its stakeholders.

One of the major achievements for EURAMET during his term was the launch of the 600-million-euro European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research, EMPIR.

Kamal will be remembered for his high commitment, effort and engagement for EURAMET.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this time.
