ISO standards and innovation conference to be held at CERN - EURAMET contributes to panel discussions

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is holding a conference at CERN in Geneva to address the incorrect assumption that standards and innovation are at odds with one another. The International Conference on Standardization and Innovation will take place on 13-14 November 2014.

A number of core issues will be addressed regarding the role of standardization in creating and disseminating technologies, opening new markets, supporting the business strategy of innovative companies, and defining and implementing successful innovation policies.

In addition, the findings of a recent study will be presented to describe the dynamic between standardization and innovation in the Green Building sector and CERN will highlight its own experience in standardization.

The conference will promote dialogue between researchers and standards experts from companies, government and academia. The overall objective is to uncover the complex relationship between standards and innovation, learning from successes and failures, and identifying and promoting optimal forms of collaboration between research and standards development.

Jörn Stenger, Vice-Chair of EURAMET, and Duncan Jarvis, EMRP Programme Manager, will take part in the panel discussions at the end of the first and second days of the conference, respectively. As members of the panel, they will review the themes addressed during each day and identify the key areas where standards are contributing to innovation.

Conference attendance is by invitation only.
