European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) milestone passed

Following on from the approval by the European Parliament in April, the 400 M€ Article 169 European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) made a major step forward on 27 July when the European Council of the European Union completed the second half of the "Co-decision" process and approved the EMRP.

The legislative papers can now be drawn up for signature by Council and Parliament, which will enable publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The legislation formally comes into force three days after publication.

The negotiations between EURAMET and the European Commission on the "General Agreement", the contract between the two parties, are well advanced and we are confident that the contract will be ready for signature as soon as the legislative process has been completed.

With the Co-decision in place, the development of the EMRP, led by the EMRP-MSU, remains on track. Anticipating success and following the successful call for potential research topics for the energy sector launched in May this year, we expect to launch the second stage, a call for Joint Research Projects, in early September.
