EURAMET Event - The EMRP from iMERA-Plus to Article 185 - Achievements and the Future

EURAMET held an evening event entitled ‘The European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) from iMERA-Plus to Article 185 - Achievements and the Future’ at Square Meeting Centre, in Brussels on 29th November 2011.

The evening event was held to review the achievements of the iMERA-Plus Joint Research Projects and to explore the future of the EMRP, and covered a range of topics including: how joint metrology research should be embedded in EURAMET‘s overall strategy and mission; a review of the scientific impact of iMERA-Plus; the status of the EMRP; and considerations for future initiatives.

The event attracted key stakeholders from the field of metrology and included speakers representing the Commission and EURAMET's Research Council.

Guests were welcomed to the event by Leslie Pendrill, the Chairperson of EURAMET e.V., who explained what EURAMET's and its member NMIs' business is - quality assured measurement; why it is important; and how meeting the Grand Challenges obliges an extensive and growing collaboration. This was followed by a presentation by Jörn Stenger, the EMRP Chair, who spoke of the scientific results of the iMERA-Plus projects. Following a short break for discussions, an address was given on behalf of Robert Jan-Smits, Director General of the European Commission, on ‘EU research funding strategy: results of the EMRP mid-term evaluation’. This was then rounded off by a presentation of the ‘View of EURAMET’s Research Council’ given by Christophe Salomon, Director of Research at CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique). A copy of each presentation is available below.

After these talks, a question and answer session provided the ideal opportunity to discuss such topics as: opportunities in the Horizon 2020 framework programme; promoting the impact of research and innovation in the field of metrology; and the success of the current EMRP programme operating under Article 185.

The evening finished with dinner, during which EURAMET displayed posters showing the projects funded as part of EMRP Call 2009 – Energy and EMRP Call 2010 – Industry and Environment, as well as posters displaying the impact of the 21 recently completed iMERA-Plus projects. All of these posters can be found on the EMRP publicity page, where they are available to download.
