The project

The EU has set a target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from rail transport by 50% by 2030. EMPIR project ‘Metrology for smart energy management in electric railways systems’ (16ENG04, MyRailS) is contributing to this ambitious target by developing infrastructure to provide accurate measurements of the power quality and the energy exchanged between trains and railway grids. These metrological developments will improve the efficiency of energy usage across Europe’s electric railway systems, and help to realise the longer-term goal of their integration into wider smart grids.

The exhibition

INRIM, Italy's National Measurement Institute, will be presenting the project’s results at the upcoming EXPO Ferroviaria 2019, the 9th international railway industry exhibition - which will be taking place on 1 – 3 October 2019 in Milan, Italy.

The railway exhibition will bring together manufacturers and suppliers from various sectors, providing attendees with the opportunity to meet and network with rail professionals from countries across Europe and more. Please visit INRIM’s stand (B161) at the exhibition to learn more about the EMPIR project and how their results will underpin the energy-efficient management of Europe’s railway networks.

INRIM will present the results of the long-term monitoring carried out on the locomotive E464-041, running in Piedmont.
Also, the institute will show a calibration setup for trains driven by alternating current.
