EMPIR project to present conformance-testing software tool at MATHMET Workshop

MATHMET International Workshop in Lisbon, Portugal on 20 – 22 November 2019
The project
In sectors ranging from aerospace to health, test and measurement devices are an essential means for product assessment. However, it has proven difficult to manage associated risks and evaluate the performance of test and measurement devices themselves – due to a distinct lack of accessible software to carry out the necessary automated risk calculations.
A previous EMRP project (‘Novel mathematical and statistical approaches to uncertainty evaluation’) developed a prototype software tool to address this challenge, and at present, an ongoing EMPIR project ‘Software to maximize end user uptake of conformity assessment with measurement uncertainty’ (17SIP05, CASoft) is working to increase the uptake of a new decision-making methodology that advances previous software capabilities. This new methodology takes into account the measurement uncertainty associated with decision-making, with the aim to provide probability distribution choices and calculations of both specific and global risks. The EMPIR project is striving to make the tool readily available for end-users to perform reliable conformity testing of measurement devices across various industries.
The project will achieve widespread adoption of such methodology through various initiatives; including the release of the updated software, end-user events, publications in trade journals, and the parallel promotion of the previous EMRP project’s best practice guides.
The event
The project will be presenting their work at the MATHMET 2019 International Workshop, to be held in Lisbon, Portugal on 20 – 22 November.
MATHMET is EURAMET’s European Metrology Network (EMN) for mathematics and statistics, which offers a pan-European collaborative approach for integrating measurement science research with mathematical and statistical methods. MATHMET stands as the central point for providing guides, recommended software and general support for the applications of mathematics and statistics in metrology.
The EMPIR project will present their contribution to the advancement of the conformance-testing software tool for measurement devices at this MATHMET event. On a broader level, the workshop will provide a forum for its participants to discuss contemporary methods and modelling challenges in measurement science.
Experts in applied mathematics, statistics, uncertainty quantification, dynamic measurements, big data and many other related fields of knowledge are invited to attend the workshop to exchange ideas and share experiences of best practice.
Registration, provisional programme and further information
