EMPIR project results to be presented at International Conference on Acoustics
9 – 13 September 2019, Aachen, Germany
The project
EMPIR project ‘Metrology for modern hearing assessment and protecting public health from emerging noise sources’ (15HLT03, Ears II) has used results from earlier EMRP project ‘Metrology for a universal ear simulator and the perception of non-audible sound’ (HLT01 Ears) to further develop and validate the innovative universal ear simulator concept in readiness for clinical practice. The device, used to calibrate hearing test equipment used in screening programmes, is designed to best represent the ears of the person being tested and will ensure more accurate diagnoses and treatment.
Another aim of the project is to improve our understanding of human response to ultrasound, including novel assessment methods for potential health risks.
ICA 2019 conference
Results from the project will be presented at the 23rd International Congress on Acoustics. Members of the EMPIR project consortium will chair the session entitled ‘High-frequency and ultrasonic emissions in air: Applications, measurement and human well-being’ where project results related to human exposure to ultrasound, and the effects of ultrasound on humans will be presented.
The conference programme will include plenary, distinguished, invited, contributed, and poster papers covering all aspects of acoustics. There will be an extensive technical exhibition highlighting the latest advances in acoustical products. The congress will integrate the conference EUROREGIO of the European Acoustics Association, EAA, with invited papers focusing on European projects, educational programs, standards, and legislation.
Registration (deadline 3 September 2019)
This EMPIR project is co-funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the EMPIR Participating States.
