Dominique Rodrigues begins term as chair of EURAMET’s TC for Acoustics, Ultrasound and Vibration

At EURAMET’s 2025 General Assembly, Dr Dominique Rodrigues (LNE, France) commenced his first term as chair of the Technical Committee (TC) for Acoustics, Ultrasound and Vibration.

A recognised researcher and Head of the Acoustic and Vibration Department at LNE, Dominique brings extensive expertise in acoustics and metrology. He holds a PhD in acoustics and has over a decade of experience in the development, calibration, and validation of measurement systems, especially in the areas of sound level meters, acoustic sensors, and environmental noise monitoring.

"My research has a strong emphasis on the maintenance of primary standards and the development of new calibration methods, in particular primary calibration techniques“, he explains. One notable achievement is the design of a laser pistonphone for the absolute calibration of infrasound sensors. As a contributor to TC29: Electroacoustics of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Dominique helps define specifications and procedures for sound measurement equipment.

His career spans numerous national and European projects, international inter-laboratory comparisons, and accredited calibration and testing activities. These experiences, he notes, have enabled him to bridge scientific research with practical implementation, reinforcing acoustic metrology’s vital role in addressing societal and environmental challenges.

“Inclusive and open discussions are the key to innovation”

As chair, Dominique aims to foster collaboration within the TC by encouraging active participation from all experts. “Inclusive and open discussions are essential for driving innovation and ensuring our work remains relevant and impactful”, he emphasises.

A key priority is strengthening engagement in European research initiatives, particularly the European Partnership on Metrology. He seeks to coordinate efforts to ensure well-prepared proposals and meaningful contributions to high-quality, competitive projects. For Dominique, the TC should serve as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, partnership building, and advancing metrology for the benefit of science and society.

His leadership is supported by strong skills in consensus building and project management, honed through previous roles. “Balancing diverse perspectives while maintaining scientific rigour is crucial in leading a TC”, he notes. His experience in international working groups has also equipped him to navigate complex discussions across cultural and institutional boundaries.

Taking on the role comes with additional responsibility. With a demanding workload and ongoing research commitments, Dominique carefully weighed the implications before accepting. “Finding the right balance was my first concern”, he reflects. Ultimately, he values the mutual benefits of committee work, believing that the insights and exchanges from TC activities enrich both scientific output and professional perspective.

EURAMET extends its best wishes to Dominique for his new role and expresses sincere gratitude to his predecessor, Enver Sadikoglu (UME, Türkiye), who served as chair from 2021 to 2025.
