World Metrology Day 2020

On May the 20th, in Paris in 1875, 17 Nations signed the Metre Convention, also known as the Treaty of the Metre. This act started a process which has led to the metrological structure and the International System of Units (SI) that we have today.  As of January 2020, the list of those original 17 signatories has now grown to 68 member states and 40 associated states – covering around 98% of the world economies.

We mark this date every year as World Metrology Day and this year the theme is “Measurements for global trade”.

To find out more about what our colleagues around the globe are doing to celebrate, and to sample some projects of EURAMET's European Metrology Research Programmes that have contributed to trade as well as a range of other topics, please visit our World Metrology Day page >>
