EMN Mathmet releases revised Quality Assurance Tools

The European Metrology Network for Mathematics and Statistics (EMN Mathmet) has released version 1.0.0 of its Quality Assurance Tools (QATs). Unlike earlier draft versions, this release has the status of an official EURAMET expert document.

The QATs provide a structured approach to ensuring that research outputs in the form of data, software, and guidelines are reliable, consistent, and fit for purpose. They are designed to support National Metrology Institutes, Designated Institutes, and their partners in delivering trusted results that meet international quality standards.

The QATs include:

  • Separate components for data, software, and guidelines.
  • For data and software: an interactive PDF risk assessment tool that helps users develop a quality management plan.
  • For guidelines: interactive checklists that distinguish between existing and new guidelines, with a focus on relevance, provenance, and fitness-for-purpose.

Updates in version 1.0.0:

  • Alignment with the EURAMET document template.
  • Revised and updated guidance documents, developed in collaboration with EURAMET’s Technical Committee for Interdisciplinary Metrology (“Research data management in European metrology” project TC-IM 1449).
  • Updated references for calibration and testing laboratories, aligned with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO/IEC 17043:2023.

Keith Lines (NPL), EMN Mathmet contact person, comments:

“Our thanks to EURAMET colleagues in the Technical Committee for Interdisciplinary Metrology (Research data management in European metrology) and EMN Mathmet for their valuable insight reviewing this new version. Thanks also to the EURAMET Secretariat for their guidance."
