At the 7th Committee Meeting of WELMEC, held in April 2026, the Members confirmed the new leadership of the organisation.

Mr. Jan Deconinck has officially taken up the role of Chair of WELMEC, following his previous service as Vice-Chair and his election as Chair-elect in 2025. Mr. Deconinck is Head of the Belgian Metrology Department within the Belgian Federal Public Service Economy and has been active in the field of National Quality Infrastructure since 1996.
With extensive experience in legal metrology, market surveillance, product safety, accreditation, standardisation and conformity assessment, he has worked as regulator, advisor, auditor, project leader and manager in both national and international contexts. Throughout his professional career, he has contributed to strengthening trusted measurement systems and supporting effective regulatory cooperation across Europe.
As Chair of WELMEC, Mr. Deconinck brings a strong belief in cooperation, practical regulatory solutions and the important role of legal metrology in building trust — for consumers, industry and the European Single Market.
At the same Committee Meeting, Dr Pamela Dagg was elected as the new Vice-Chair of WELMEC. Dr Dagg serves as Director of Legal Metrology at the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), where she leads Ireland’s statutory legal metrology regulatory function and manages a multidisciplinary team.
Her experience spans national, European and international activities in legal metrology, while her broader professional background includes work in sustainability, environmental protection and climate change-related policy and implementation. She has consistently highlighted the importance of trusted measurement in driving effective action and informed decision-making.
Dr Dagg represents Ireland within both WELMEC and the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), working closely with regulators, industry and other stakeholders. She brings to WELMEC a strong commitment to cooperation, practical and proportionate regulatory solutions, and the crucial role of legal metrology in building trust for consumers and businesses within the European Single Market, while also supporting innovation, sustainability and environmental protection.
WELMEC looks forward to continuing its work under the new leadership, strengthening European cooperation in legal metrology and supporting reliable measurements that underpin fair trade, consumer protection, innovation and confidence in the market.
