Comparison of solid state DC voltage standards

Project Description

Within the project, a traveling solid state DC voltage standard will be calibrated by the participating laboratories at 10 V and 1.018 V, using their own equipment and calibration methods. The pilot laboratory will be BEV, while INM will provide the traveling standard.

Final Report 2007-09-13

The comparison has been completed and results are available in the KCDB.

The objective of this comparison was to link the National Institute of Metrology Bucharest (INM) to the key comparisons BIPM.EM-K11.a and BIPM.EM-K11.b.
Within the project, a travelling solid state DC voltage standard was measured by the participating laboratories at 10 V and 1.018 V, using their own equipment and calibration methods. The pilot laboratory was BEV, while INM provided the travelling standard.

The primary standard for DC voltage is formed by the Josephson Array Voltage Standard (JAVS). This type of standard is used by UME and BEV. The national standard of INM is a Zener standard, calibrated at BIPM.
The measurements were done in June/July 2005. Draft A was available in March 2006.
Draft B has been circulated for approval by the WGLF and the CCEM on 5 May 2006 with a deadline 31 May. Six answers were received, four of them with comments which were passed to the pilot laboratory for consideration. In an ad hoc meeting at the Euromet meeting in Thessaloniki on 19 October 2006, the open questions were discussed. After preparation of the revised Draft B1 report in December 2006 there were some objections by UME against the revised evaluation procedure. In a meeting at BIPM in March 2007 another revised evaluation procedure was suggested. The pilot laboratory finalised the Draft B2 report in May 2007. This report was accepted by all participants as well as the WGLF and the CCEM.

The INM results at the voltage level of 1.018 V as well as at 10 V show adequate agreement within the stated uncertainties.
