The project

EMPIR project Multiphase flow reference metrology (16 ENG07, MultiFlowMet II) developed harmonised multiphase measurements to support subsea exploration of new oil and gas reserves.

Multiphase flow measurement is a fundamental enabling capability in subsea oil and gas production. However, prior to the work of this project field measurements exhibit high measurement uncertainty, costing the industry billions of euros each year in financial exposure and production inefficiencies. To rectify this, a reference measurement capability was needed that was consistent and comparable across the different test laboratories offering multiphase flow measurement services, to instill confidence in these essential measurements.

 

 

This EMPIR project applied a harmonised approach to multiphase flow measurements developed in an earlier EMRP project Multiphase flow metrology in oil and gas production  (MultiFlowMet, ENG58) to an enlarged network of laboratories, covering a wider range of flow conditions with applicability across a wider range of multiphase meter types. This has led to lower uncertainty measurements and greater confidence in the deployment of multiphase metering technology. Such technology is a vital component of subsea engineering, the most economically effective means of exploiting new oil and gas reserves at the lowest possible cost.

The Workshop

This event will showcase the results from the intercomparison testing carried out between multiphase labs.

It is aimed at anyone interested in multiphase metering: multiphase test labs, oil and gas operators, metering engineers, manufacturers of metering equipment and researchers. The workshop will include presentations on project outputs, including the latest advice on good practice for multiphase testing, advice on improving measurement uncertainty and an update on multiphase standards development.
