Ministerial Delegates support EMPIR

Recently EURAMET invited the national ministerial delegates of Europe to provide detailed information about its proposed new initiative, the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR). The event was scheduled at an important point in time with regard to the EMPIR decision-making process. More than 30 representatives from 16 European countries joined the meeting and EURAMET was happy to welcome them in Brussels.

The ministerial delegates were informed about the current status of preparations for the co-decision process, possible changes in the co-funding method and implementation requirements for EMPIR. In return they expressed their support for the new research initiative and metrology research in general. The representatives demonstrated their national perceptions of the programme and underlined the importance of a greater involvement from further research organisations besides National Metrology Institutes and Designated Institutes. Continued positive experience with the current European Metrology Research Programme has particularly helped to ensure the delegates’ commitment.

Dr. Kamal Hossain, EURAMET Chairperson, was impressed by the strong and motivating feedback: “I am confident that we are all keen to move forward on our way towards EMPIR.” To resolve the upcoming tasks, EURAMET will initiate regular collaboration between the association and the ministerial delegates. “I would like to thank all of you for your support, co-operation and help with the accomplishment of this very important meeting. Our special thanks go to the host of the meeting, the Belgian National Metrology Institute FPS Economy - SMD Service Métrologie.”
