The 6th annual meeting of the EURAMET and WELMEC Focus Group on Facilitating the National Metrology Infrastructure Development was held in Istanbul (Turkey) in November 2013.
28 participants from 19 National Metrology Institutes, associations and a representative of IPA 2011 programme were informed about the achievements of the last year and exchanged important information of the metrology community. One of the topics discussed was the future role of the Focus Group within the proposed European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR), in particular in Capacity Building. Capacity Building within EMPIR shall include Research Potential Projects and Human & Institutional Capacity Building. To provide support for these important tasks the Focus Group established a new working group especially for Capacity Building.
Already during the Focus Group Meeting, several ideas for the potential capacity building topics have been introduced. The ideas include automation of measuring systems, MiC (food safety, human health and safety, environment protection, preparation of CRMs), ionizing radiation, dimensional measurements, humidity and e-learning.
Additionally the EURAMET Secretariat shall support the Focus Group in its Research Potential activities and provide advice in drafting proposals and forming consortia. To support the Capacity Building activities, Tanasko Tasić joined the EURAMET Secretariat within a one-year-secondment as Capacity Building and Member Support Officer.
Janko Drnovšek, EURAMET Vice-Chairperson commented: "We are very happy about the important outcomes of the Focus Group meeting. Especially we would like to express our thanks to UME-TUBITAK, the Turkish National Metrology Institute, for the excellent organisation of the event."
