Industrial companies Nivarox and Haag-Streit have used results from EMRP project IND59 'Microparts' for the development of their products

Microparts, components with complex geometries that range in size from less than one millimetre to around 10, are increasingly used for products in the automotive, medical and telecommunications industries.
However, it is challenging to accurately measure the dimensions of their complex features.

EMRP project IND59 'Multi-sensor metrology for microparts in innovative industrial products' will address this issue, and will ensure industrial relevance by engaging with several end users. Measurements were carried out on a "Ninja wheel" (timekeeping device used in mechanical watches) and cornea artefact, proposed by Nivarox and Haag-Streit respectively. Both were impressed with the results, and will use them to further develop escapements (Ninja wheels) and ophthalmologic instruments.
