The report on the energy theme within the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) is now available online along with the research highlights and case studies demonstrating early impact these projects generated.
The aim of the EMRP Energy themes I and II was to develop the measurement infrastructure to support Europe’s sustainable energy goals. The metrological research focused on technologies that supported reduced greenhouse gasses, a secure, sustainable and affordable energy system whilst increasing the competitiveness of Europe's industries.
This report outlines the key technical achievements and details the new measurement capabilities developed as a result of the collaborations within these energy themed projects.
EURAMET’s two EMRP Energy themes provided the funding to support 21 collaborative research projects that brought together 42 National Metrology Institutes and Designated Institutes with energy generators, distributors, instrument manufacturers and academia to address crucial measurement challenges across the entire energy supply chain. All EMRP projects engage widely with the user communities who will benefit from the research.
The case studies listed below highlight the uptake of the project results.
- Improved calibrations for solar cells
- New standards for solar power
- Improving wind turbine reliability
- Faster solar cell product development
- Reliable measurement of turbine gears
- New calibrations for current sensors
- New sensors for high voltage grids
Research continues in the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR) Energy theme projects.
EMPIR projects are co-funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the EMPIR Participating States.
EMRP projects are part of EURAMET’s European Metrology Research Programme. The EMRP is jointly funded by the EMRP participating countries within EURAMET and the European Union.
